Guard to the Corner

Guard to the Corner

About Guard to the Corner:

Guard to the Corner is a play designed to get a guard an open look at a three-pointer. This play should only be run in two scenarios, if the team is in need of a three-pointer, or a man on the team has been having success from deep and you want to give him a chance to score. This play is effective at getting a open shot if run correctly, however having confidence in a man to make the shot is up to the coach. While shooting deep shots is hard for any player confidence is the most important factor in any sport. One way to give a player confience is to get him a special ball that only he can use in practice, then use the same ball as the game ball at all home games. This is a weird way of getting confidence but I tried it out on one of my kids and the very next game his feild goal percentage skyrocketed. Click Here to see the ball I suggest you use.

Setup:

Guard to the corner is set up with the main ball handler (1) at the top of the court on one side. The other guard (2) is at the same spot on the other side of the court. One forward (3) is on the ball side wing. The other forward (4) is on the ball side block. The center (5) is on the ball side elbow .

Running the Play:

To run Guard to the Corner the ball handler must pass the ball to the forward on the wing and cut through to the opposite block.  The center must then drop and form a wall with the forward on the block leaving only enough room on the baseline for one man to come through. The guard on the block must then run across the court to the ball side corner rubbing off of the double screen set by the center and forward. The forward on the wing must then pass the guard the ball in the corner where the guard will hopefully have an open three pointer.
