About Gun:

Gun is a play for more advanced teams. This play requires that your team has at least one acceptional passer, and at least one player that can shoot a alley-oop layup. It is also a good idea to have another player that is good at three point shots. This play is a very good play to start the game off with because it looks very good which intimidates the other team, and also because it gets a lot of momentum going for the team. This is however quite a hard play to execute if the team does not meet the needs for this play.

Setup:

To run Gun, the main ball handler (1) must be your player that can shoot an alley-oop layup. He must have the ball at the top of the court on one side. The other guard (2) must be a very good passer. He must be on the ball side elbow. One forward (3) must be on the other elbow. The best three point shooter (4) must be on the ball side block. The remaining player (5) must be on the block opposite of the ball. Like my diagrams? You can make the same ones with a dry erase board! Running the Play:

To run gun, the forward on the elbow opposite of the ball must set a screen for the man on the other elbow, this man must then go off the screen to the top of the court on the side opposite of the ball carrier. The ball handler must then pass the ball to the other guard and run off of the screen that the forward just set for the other guard, he must go off this screen toward the bucket and if open will receive a lob pass from the guard with the ball for a alley-oop layup. If this is not open the man on the block opposite of the ball will run to the ball side corner going off of a screen set by the man on the ball side block. The man in the corner is the second, and final, scoring option.
