Double Guard

Double Guard

About Double Guard:

Double Guard is a play that should be used when an easy layup is needed, but there is not enough time to set up an elaborate play. When run correctly, double guard can provide layup after layup without much effort at all. This play, like jam, is a situational play that should only be used a few times every game. It should not be used as a regular offense. This play requires very fast and hard cutting, to ensure the best cuts, traction is key. Setup:

The setup for double guard is fairly simple, one guard (1) has the ball on one side of the court and the other guard (2) is at the same spot on the other side. The forward on the ball side (3) is on the wing, and the other forward (4) is on the opposite side on the block. The center (5) is on the ball side elbow.

Running the Play:
To run double guard correctly, the ball handler must pass the ball to the man on the wing and cut off of the center towards the basket, the first scoring option is for the man on the wing to lob it back to the guard for a layup. If this is not open the guard must continue to the opposite wing. Then the other guard must run across the court and make the same cut, this guard is the second scoring option. If neither of these are open the forward with the ball can drive for a layup, shoot a three-pointer, or dribble to the top and run another play.
